#IWILL Social Action Youth Art Project

Students at The Halifax Academy worked together with Everybody Arts to deliver a social action youth art project.

Over the course of a year, students were invited to consider how they can use art to affect positive change in their own lives and the lives of others, now and in the future.

The project provided students with specialist training and support from socially engaged artist practitioners who worked with the students to discover ways to think, express and communicate their ideas visually.

Due to the Pandemic we had to make some changes to the project delivery and started delivering lessons through printed worksheets. These sessions have been brought together into a printed and digital workbook, full of creative activity ideas that explore the links between Art and Activism.

If you are a young person ages 12-16 you can receive your free copy of our workbook digitally or in the post by completing the form below.

The project was made possible thanks to funding from Calderdale Community Foundation and the #IWILL Youth Social Action Campaign who tell us that;

All young people should be supported and empowered to be active citizens. That’s why the #iwill campaign, supported by over 1,000 organisations from across the UK, aims to make participation in social action – such as volunteering, fundraising, mentoring and campaigning – the norm for young people aged 10 to 20.

Young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. They have the energy, skills and ideas to change society and the environment for the better today. Yet society often fails to listen to young people’s views or recognise their ability to make a positive difference. This is particularly the case for young people from low-income communities.
