An innovative creative health project to support wellbeing and improve career opportunities for young women in Calderdale.

Bloom

We have joined forces with Creative Minds and South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust (SWYPFT) to deliver a female-led training and mentorship programme for women aged 18-25 in Calderdale.

The Bloom programme will support participants to forge a career in the cultural-health sector by providing a range of training, mentoring and work placement opportunities over the course of three six month programmes. Crucially, it will also help to improve a wider group of participants wellbeing with an associated monthly support network that will build confidence and establish good self-care practices.

The funding for this project was gratefully received from The Pilgrim’s Trust and project partners Creative Minds and South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust. It will support delivery of the Bloom programme for three years, engaging over 300 women.

We’re currently recruiting a new team member to help us deliver this project, check out the role description for more information.

As the project progresses we’ll share updates and information about how to get involved on this page and via our mailing list.

We are thrilled to have received this funding from The Pilgrim’s Trust to deliver this important programme. We know that young women in Calderdale face a range of mental health challenges, and we need urgent, targeted mental health services and comprehensive support systems to tackle this growing issue.

The Bloom programme will support the wellbeing of participants taking part and provide tools to help them to maintain and manage their wellbeing throughout their personal and professional life. Importantly, it will also open up pathways into careers in the cultural health sector, enabling them to go on to support the wellbeing of others.

Our hope is that, through this programme, we can create positive outcomes for our participants directly, while also supporting a wider group of people across Calderdale through the development of more, much-needed cultural-health experts.
— Lauren Iredale, director of Everybody Arts

A big thank you to our funders for their support in bringing this project to life.

We are excited to be partnering with Everybody Arts on this critical programme.

The Bloom programme builds on our successful CreativeCare programme to provide trauma-informed support and training opportunities for young women in Calderdale. Delivered by an all-female team of artist-educators, mentors and counsellors, and informed by young women and their experiences, the programme provides a safe and supportive environment for those taking part.

The associated Bloom Network will help us to support even more women by creating a space for those working in the sector to connect, find inspiration, and share skills and experiences. It will also offer access to a community of peers and contacts for the trainees after their programme commences, making it a critical part of the support provided through the Bloom project.
— David McQuillan from South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust and Creative Minds
We are delighted to award funding to this innovative, female-led project through our Young Women in Mind fund. The combination of mentoring and counselling support alongside the training programme will help three young women improve their mental health while developing their careers in creative therapeutic interventions. The legacy of this project will be increased capacity for health services to deliver more support to young women facing acute mental ill health, by young women who really understand their experiences.
