About the Project
After being welcomed with a drink of hospitality, you will be invited to indulge in some mindful eating of 70% dark organic chocolate.
Across a week of experimentation and development, Adelle A'asante will be creating new work for the 'Chocolate Has A Name' project. This project is dynamic and ongoing, and will culminate in a festival in October 2024. Join Adelle to contribute to a community-driven artwork and explore the rich tapestry of global heritage.

About the Artist
Adelle A’asante is the cocoa story, a lived-experience storyteller, hailing from a long lineage of West African Griots. She focuses on the sacred art of storytelling as a tool for social change and justice. Adelle currently resides in Calderdale, where she utilizes her artistic practice to illuminate the forgotten narratives of marginalized communities through the social enterprise Ese ne Tekyerema, who will be delivering the Chocolate Has a Name Festival, a key commission project as part of CultureDale 2024. The festival aims to foster empathy and inspire social transformation.
Through her art, Adelle aspires to grow as a visual artist, contributing to Halifax’s vibrant art landscape. She advocates for fair and sustainable practices in her work, exploring cocoa as a pedagogical tool, an art medium, an embodied absence of the past, and as the Cocoa Artist.
