Calderdale Community Spirit Award winners!

On 25 November, we had the privilege of attending the Community Foundation for Calderdale’s Community Spirit Awards. We were delighted to be announced as the winners of the Arts and Culture category!

The Arts and Culture award is presented to an organisation that has demonstrated passion and enthusiasm in making a significant contribution to the wider community. The last 18 months have been challenging for many local organisations, but despite the difficult circumstances we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, especially during the pandemic. It really does mean the world. We are really grateful to the Community Foundation for Calderdale for putting on such a fantastic event where being able to meet in person and receive our award alongside so many other wonderful organisations and incredible people was really special.

Our Director, Lauren Iredale, said:

“We are so pleased to win this award which serves as a brilliant testament to the power and potential of art to make positive change in and for communities. As an organisation we are nothing more than the time and energy that our incredible community of artists and creatives have dedicated over the years, supported by our wonderful funders and partners who have shared our vision.

This award celebrates all we have achieved together and is dedicated to our community. From the ‘Everybody School of Art’ to everyone who has been part of our journey - thank you!”

The judges commented:

“We were particularly impressed with how inclusive Artworks are, the breadth of people they work with and how they use art to support wellbeing. We were also impressed with how they continued to work with people during lockdown, whether it be sending physical packs to people with limited access to a computer or delivering Calderdale’s interactive Culture Map.”

A huge congratulations is also due to our fellow winners and nominees – you’re all amazing! Take a look at the full list of nominees here and stay tuned for photos and videos from the event on the Community Foundation for Calderdale website.
