Let's celebrate Refugee Week 2022...

Refugee Week is taking place this week (20 - 26 June) and we are so excited to be hosting the ‘Healing’ exhibition in our beautiful gallery space as part of it. This exhibition provides the opportunity to share positive stories about the role that art can play in healing, as well as provide an important platform for underrepresented voices in our community.

It’s been the first open call exhibition we’ve had since the pandemic and it’s been a real joy to hang so many fantastic and engaging pieces of artwork. So a big thank you to everyone who submitted work! The exhibition will be open from the 20th June to the 2nd of July. The exhibition is free to attend and available to view on the following dates:

-Tuesday 21st June, 12-3pm

-Monday 27th June, 12-3pm

-Tuesday 28th June, 12-3pm

-Wednesday 29th June, 12-3pm

-Thursday 30th June, 12-3pm

-Friday 1st July, 12-3pm

We do hope you’ll come down and say hello!

Also, don’t forget to join us this Friday (24 June) at 3pm for a celebration event in the gallery to mark the exhibition. There’ll be performances, an opportunity to meet some of the artists and a chance to view the exhibition.

This week, we are more proud than ever to be a member of Valley of Sanctuary, a group working to make Calderdale a place of safety for those seeking sanctuary from war and persecution. If you would like to support the vital work they do, you can sign up to join Valley of Sanctuary as a member here.

Our Healing exhibition also sheds the spotlight on Julio, our current Studio of Sanctuary artist-in-residence. Our studio of Sanctuary programme provides an opportunity for Asylum Seekers and Refugees living in Calderdale to develop their artistic practice in a dedicated studio environment. If you would like to support the work we do to make this happen, please consider making a donation so we can continue giving much needed access to studio spaces.
