Healing

Refugee Week Exhibition

20 June - 1 July 2022

For Refugee Week 2022 we invited people from across Calderdale, especially migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, to share an artwork on the theme of Healing.

This exhibition showcased and celebrated the creative steps, acts, expressions and journeys taken by people who use art to heal themselves and others: providing the opportunity to share positive stories about the role that art can play in healing, as well as providing an important platform for underrepresented voices in our community.

The exhibition was free to attend during Refugee Week with a celebration event from 3pm on Friday 24th June.

β€œHealing means recovering from a painful experience or situation, so that we can continue to live. No-one understands this better than those who have lost their homes and had to build new lives from scratch. We have much to learn from refugees about holding onto hope when going on seems impossible – as well as about how art, creativity and community can help us to heal.”
